Grand Staircase

Grand Staircase Diagram as shown in a display at Kodachrome State Park

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is so-named because it’s a staircase of colorful cliffs that step down from west to east, starting at Bryce Canyon, passing through Vermillion Cliffs and Escalante Canyon, surrounding Kodachrome Basin, and ending at Capitol Reef National Park.

Wahweap Hoodoos

Grand Staircase was one of our favorite parks so far on our trip.  And perhaps the highlight was the Wahweap Hoodoos, a large collection of white ghostly spires covered with dark caps.  Please check out our Grand Staircase photo tour.
